Logan Hicks, Anthony Lister & Michael Kalish Exhibition @ Opera Gallery NYC
Ok, so I have a few artist I look up to and really admire their work. Logan Hicks being one of them, unfortunately most major ART Events take place in the city I hope to one day visit & maybe live in for a while, NYC. Tomorrow marks the opening of a new group show featuring works from Logan Hicks, Anthony Lister and Michael Kalish. Logan Hicks brings his meticulously stenciled, expressive landscapes to the show while Anthony Lister’s painterly spray can antics deliver more defaced heroes and Michael Kalish makes mangled license plates bloom into portraits. The video above features Logan Hicks speaking on the new show, talking about historical photographs and feeling alone in the busiest place in the world.
Banksy in New York

Banksy proceeds with his US Tour as the mysterious artist’s film, Exit Through the Gift Shop, continues its popularity in select theaters. This time around, Banksy makes his way to the Big Apple as we see new pieces done in New York City, a compliment to his recent work in San Francisco.

Roy Lichtenstein: Still Lifes Exhibition

Celebrated pop-artist Roy Lichtenstein recently had a retrospective of his work displayed at New York’s Gagosian Gallery which began last week. The exhibition is the first of its kind to focus solely on the artist’s works ranging from paintings to sculptures and drawings created between 1972 and the early 80s. Lichtenstein’s signature aesthetic inspired by newspaper and advertisements has become an often replicated style and has firmly cemented the artist’s place as one of the Pop Art world’s great masters. In addition to the retrospective exhibition, an illustrated catalog will release including an essay from Princeton University’s Professor of American Art, John Wilmerding, a pictorial from Louise Lawler and an interview with collector and dealer Joe Helman. The Roy Lichtenstein: Still Lifes Exhibition will run until July 30th, 2010

MR. Brainwash ICONS REMIX Exhibition
The controversial documentarian turned artist MR. Brainwash launched a massively hyped pop art exhibition earlier this year in New York City. Based on the response, the artist re-opened the ICONS show on Mother’s Day as he presents several new art pieces in the large 15,000 square foot space. The ICONS REMIX exhibition runs from now until the end of the month.

This man, never stops. It seems like he always has something new & I think that tells just how much he doesn’t want to give up his position in street art.
XXLART x World Class Youth Interview

Ok, so a few months ago I came across a company called World Class Youth. I did a little bit of research on them and I started to really like what they did, so a few weeks ago I emailed CEO Analyssa Benedict and asked her if she would answer a few interview questions so that our viewers can see what she and her company is all about. If your a fan of what we here at XXLART support, you’ll love World Class Youth! This girl Analyssa and her team have so much talent and not to mention she’s only 20 years old! So nevertheless, here is the interview questions we asked Analyssa:
What do you define Art as?
Art is the joyful expression one can make by bringing their inner talent to life. Weather it be a sculptor, a photographer, a painter, a model, a dancer etc. you are expressing what moves you on your own canvas for the world to see and if you can make another feel your soul then that is the Art of It.
What do you define a skilled artist, photographer, or a fashion designer as?
To me a skilled Artist is a passionate artist and if you take yourself and your work seriously then others will take you on as a professional.
What skills are needed to meet their standards of becoming a member of WCY?
To be a part of World Class Youth the first thing you have to do is WANT IT. You can see when a person genuinely wants something, at least i can read it pretty well. Other than that as long as you can show proof in the pudding that your work is all you and your goals and dreams somehow relate to your work then you are skilled enough.
What do you plan to achieve with your company?
Everyday is an achievement with WCY, always bringing on new challenges and new ideas it is such a creative refreshing environment. Overall the one thing i look to achieve is knowing that at least one person has come across us everyday, it really shows when we get new friends or tweets and even fan mail, our fans inspire us to dream big for the rest of the world.
What do you plan to show this world with your company?
World Class Youth plans to expose young talents everyday in every way possible, we want the world to know that there is something out there for those who need a foot in the door and want a beautiful opportunity. I was once in that place where all i wanted was to know where and whom to turn to, and now i have created a masterpiece for those like myself.
What do you plan to teach society with the work your company does?
Its not so much teaching society with the work done, its just about showing. We want to show this industry that surrounding yourself in a friendly, safe and exciting work environment is still possible within the cliche of people out there. We also want to show the world how a Los Angeles Based Production Company exceeds in finding and bringing in other organizations to take part in our good-doing.
What do you like about your company?
“Like” is such and understatement, LOVE is more like it, everyday this company seeks to amaze me, i love everything about it and everyone who is genuinely involved in our work and growth. Of course there is ALWAYS going to be a few out there who are lost in self seeking ways but you need to love them too and i do.
What do you hope your company will achieve?
My biggest hope that everyone and anyone who has a question or interest in World Class Youth will come to us directly for information and advice. We are always here with open arms and a big believer that you don’t know us until you have experienced WITH us.
Why did you choose to get into the art, fashion, and photography business?
It’s not that i have chosen to have taken part in this business, its more that i was placed here with a purpose and every single day that i wake up i am ready to take on the day with the dreams i had that night. The adrenaline rush and beauty of it all keep me going.
What does your name symbolize?
“WORLD CLASS YOUTH” lets think about it, we are dedicated to the world in the most classy professional yet unique way possible represented by the young hearts of this industry and we OWN it. That pretty much sums it up.
Is exploiting youth a movement to teach future generations to appreciate art, fashion, and photography?
Exploiting youth is a Movement to REACH OUT to your sisters first daughter, who is in awe of the kind lady that did her makeup for her first dance recital, to your shy cousin who gets his first camera for christmas this year with a future seen through his lens, its to tell the tall awkward skinny girl in your science class that behind her eyes is a dream bigger than last years prom queen, it is as well to today’s service volunteer to know that there is so much more out there within reach. This Movement is to tomorrows generation to see that together we all deserve a chance and own a purpose. Appreciation just comes naturally with the whole package

Banksy “Exit Through the Gift Shop” Los Angeles Premiere Recap

Earning numerous headlines, British street artist Banksy premiered his documentary “Exit Through the Gift Shop” in Los Angeles this week. The event featured some live installations to compliment the movie. Furthermore, the movie’s editor and producer Jaimie D’Cruz the editor and producer speaks with graf-historian Roger Gasman speak further about the project.
After watching the moive, I gotta say I was incredibly inspired. To see one of my favorite artist (not banksy) gain fame & success over night was just something that told me it’s not possible. The movie itself wasn’t a “work of art”, but it definitely was something worth watching whether or not you are a fan of street art. I took my brother and two friends who aren’t so much into street art as I am, but were willing to give the movie a shot & I must say I was glad they loved it as much as I did. I’m planning to watch it a couple of more times & I hope everyone gives it a shot as well.
