Autism is a developmental disorder that appears in the first 3 years of life, and affects the brain's normal development of social and communication skills.
A disorder of neural development characterized by impaired social interaction and communication, and by restricted and repetitive behavior. These signs all begin before a child is three years old
Autism Spectrum Disorder: a spectrum of psychological conditions characterized by widespread abnormalities of social interaction and communication as well as restricted interests and repetitive behavior.

Development delays by 30 months
Loses previous acquired abilities to say words or sentences
No eye contact
Lack of awareness for others' feelings.
Child does not respond to his/her name
Cannot explain what he/she wants
Intense and violent tantrums
Odd movement patterns
Fixation on things that can't seem to be moved on from
Unusual repetitive behavior
Limited interests in activities or play.
Unusual focus on pieces. (Younger children with autism often focus on parts of toys, such as the wheels on a car, rather than playing with the entire toy.)
